In order for women to escape violent relationships or stabilize after experiencing violence, they need not only a safe place to go, but also the support of people who understand what they are going through. There is still a severe shortage of such places in Czechia.

We are therefore very happy that we were able to open one such place—and take another step toward ensuring that no woman is left alone in her situation.

We presented the new crisis apartment on November 19, 2025, at a press conference at the PORT center. It was also a symbolic launch of our activities for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, through which proFem is joining a global initiative and reminding everyone that violence against women must not be overlooked.

The opening of the crisis apartment would not have been possible without the support of our institutional, foundation, and corporate partners, as well as the public, which shows how essential joint efforts are in strengthening the system of assistance to victims of violence. "The cooperation between proFem and Prague 6 is long-term. We provide the premises where the center is located, and we supported its establishment with a grant. I am glad that our cooperation continues to develop and that we were able to provide a crisis apartment for victims of violence. It is extremely important for us to have such a service in our area," says Petr Prokop, Deputy Mayor of Prague 6.

Another important partner is the Prague City Hall, whose subsidies cover a significant part of the financing of our services: "I am grateful for every new apartment where women who have experienced violence can find support, safety, and care. proFem has long been doing extremely important and sensitive work that gives women and their children a chance for stability and a dignified new start. A year ago, we as a city opened a house in Žižkov that provides safe housing for victims of domestic violence. I am glad that our efforts are coming together and that together we can offer women and children a place where they can find peace, support, and the feeling that they are not alone," adds Alexandra Udženija, Deputy Mayor of Prague for Social Affairs, Housing, and Health.

IKEA Czech Republic designed and furnished the entire apartment: "We are delighted to have been able to join forces with the proFem organization and contribute our expertise in interior design to create a safe and cozy space for women and children in crisis. It was great to be part of the volunteer day, putting furniture together and seeing how our work is transforming into a safe place for new beginnings," adds Martina Hlisnikovská, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at IKEA.

The crisis apartment is intended for women who need to get out of a dangerous situation, have nowhere to return after an attack, or need short-term psychological stabilization without the need for hospitalization. More information here.

Women seeking the service can contact the 24/7 proFem hotline: 608 222 277 at any time.

We would like to thank all donors who contributed to the renovation of the apartment in the Priceless collection. A big thank you also goes to our corporate partners, who have been helping us for a long time to create a safe environment for victims of domestic and sexual violence. Special thanks go to IKEA for the interior design, complete furnishing of the apartment, including the kitchen, and above all for their personal commitment and volunteer work—from assembling furniture to fine-tuning the design down to the last detail. We would also like to thank our institutional partners for their long-term support of PORT's services: the Prague City Hall and the Prague 6 district.
